A Disturbance of the Leit - Leitmotif Challenge
A downloadable game
Heya folks, here's my submissions for the Mystery Jam using both leitmotif's provided in the prompt. I decided to have some fun with sound design and went for a bit of a cosmic horror / doom metal sorta feeling, and both tracks split off into directions without any real planning, so there's a lot of improvisational design here. I worked very hard on the mixing and mastering this time, as I've been known to really cut out the bass and some mids sometiomes, while adding in lots of highs.
I attribute this to 1) my listening skills for other tracks and 2) me finally pulling in reference tracks from similar genres and mastering something comparatively similar to them. My headphone setup also changed, along with some different settings on my DAC bass and treble wheels so that I can now comfortably listen to mastered tracks like this and get a better feel for making them offhand now.
I hope you guys enjoy the tracks
Motif 1 - Facing the Astral Riff: [Loop 0:33 to 1:41 or 2:00, whichever you prefer]
Unchanged - it's now layered as a power chord about 40 seconds in, but it retains the same key. Makes for a fantastic guitar section! Lots of inspiration from Doom and Doom Eternal's soundtracks, made by the ever-fantastic Mick Gordon.
Motif 2 - Navigating the Astral Rift: [Loop 0:45 to 2:00 or 2:04, whichever you prefer]
Changed note placement - the motif proper shows up in the last 15 seconds of the track, but the majority of it uses a glitchy version of the same notes in the same key, with slightly altered placement due to the increase in BPM. Inspiration is taken from Subnautica and Stellaris' soundtrack, made by Simon Chylinski and Andreas Waldetoft.
